COURSE ACCREDITATION AND LICENSING STANDARDS
In most countries the authorities who set the course standards and contents are also involved in determining the standard of applicants for a license to practice. This is not yet the case in Northern America. North America is unique in allowing non-professionals to determine the "level" of a course and in defining "doctoral" degrees in terms of course-material generally completed in undergraduate degrees in other countries. Since admission to non-American doctoral degrees is dependent on the completion of such material, non-American degrees include little or none of it in a doctoral program. The result is that the majority of appropriately-trained non-American-educated professional psychologists do not qualify for licensing in North American countries purely because their educational systems are more advanced.
